I really wasn't expecting this level of help - you're a saint!
I thought I should try absolutely everything before I wasted your time - the very last thing I tried was changing the setting of the audio type for the HDMI INPUT to the TV. I switched it from bitstream to PCM. It's made a massive improvement in the way the Samsung telly is processing the Vodafone audio. It's not perfectly in sync but it's only as fraction delayed so i can live with it. most people won't even notice. I'm just being pedantic as I used to be a broadcaster. Cheers

I downgraded the video output of Vodafone, but the TV can't process it via the soundbar.
Looks like I'll just have to ignore the APP features on Vodafone TV and stick to regular telly only. :-(
