I have been advised by 2 Degrees that they will terminate their 2G network end of March 2018 .
Will Vodafone continue past this date ? I have a Senior Citzens phone with large buttons and an emergency call alert
that I would really love to keep going for an 84 year old parent . I have not been able to find anything similar in 3G
thanks for any info
Steve

We have no plans to close the 2G mobile network.
Hope that helps!

Further. I have a two sim phone that is 2g+3g dual sim stand by. I want to put a 3g data sim (prepaid, not plan). Will I be able to use the 2g for voice and sms for the foreseeable future via Vodafone?

There are no plans at this time, but as per the article at some point we will plan for and announce any retirement of 2G voice services.

Can you advise how much advance notification will be given regarding the shutdown of voice service on 2g as some customers will need to account for hundreds of devices and services which is not trivial.

Many months if not more. Network changes are planned well in advance, so we would ensure customers like yourself with many device/connections would have plenty of time to prepare.

I am in process of purchasing 2G equipment for use in the Port Chalmers coastal area. 3G equipment is not available in the package that I require. I need assurance that Vodafone will provide the 2G network inb the stated area, for at least the next 2 years and preferably 3 of more years, otherwise my purchase will be wasted. Please provide a specific assurance. Thanks.

Hey Mike, made this account just to ask..
We're setting up some automated things in houses that rely on 2G network to receive/send text messages.. i.e. garage doors, alarms etc...
When Vodafone says the voice network won't last until 2025, does that mean literally the voice network and we can still use SMS services.
I know its a stretch but I thought it was worth confirming, its so much cheaper for us to use the 2G network.

Or network is made up of layers of 2G/3G/3G Extended/4G, 2G continues to play an important role in that and will continue to do so.
