All Caveats (take backups etc) ... but this worked for me on Windows 10 ...
I configured my Win10 PC as a Samba 1.0/Cifs Client (only) as per
The reboot for the change to take effect took a bit longer than normal - be patient.

SMB1 has major security issues https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/security-updates/securitybulletins/2017/ms17-010
https://www.zdnet.com/article/windows-10-tip-stop-using-the-horribly-insecure-smbv1-protocol/
& SMB2 or SMB3 should be used instead, unfortunately the Vodafone modem/routers dont support SMB2 or SMB3

Fair Call thanks Valleyman.
I'll be backing out the solution ... despite having decent anti-virus / ransomware software in place.
Please fix in Firmware update Vodafone and advise. (Now that would be a pleasant surprise - something more than basic functionality from a device that was seemingly engineered with such a solution in mind).
