Hi, I've a couple of days ago asked to add a home phone line to our account, via smarthub (installed a couple of months ago). How will I know when it is connected/ready to go? Will I need to restart the technicolor modem and/or the smart hub?

You'll see a green light on the front of the ultra hub, solid green light. No shouldn't need to restart.
