I have a vodofone mobile broadband usb stick and have been told they are obsolete. I have a laptop and want to be able to go on the internet. I do not want a landline or a smart phone.

Have you had a look at Pocket WiFi? You can connect up to 10 devices over 4G and can be Prepay or Pay Monthly.
