VDSL - significant performance degradation since thunderstorm

Have had VDSL for a number of years with consistent D/L of 30+Mbps download and 5+Mbps upload.  On the morning of 4 Dec 2018 we had an electrical storm in our area including a nearby lightning strike which took out internet and landline connectivity for a number of our neighbours, including frying some modems.  Whilst we never lost connectivity, our connection speeds since that storm have been around 5-8Mbps down and 400-500Kbps up with speedtest pings of 32ms at best (and often worse) Smiley Sad

Thought that it may have been due water in the lines etc but there has been no improvement after this extended period of hot dry weather.

Naked VDSL with the modem being less than a meter from the master filter.  Modem is a HG659.  I performed a factory reset last night.  DSL stats are as follows:

DSL synchronization status: Up
Connection status: Showtime
Upstream line rate (kbit/s): 514
Downstream line rate (kbit/s): 9325
Maximum upstream rate (kbit/s): 512
Maximum downstream rate (kbit/s): 9363
Upstream noise safety coefficient (dB): 7.9
Downstream noise safety coefficient (dB): 8.2
Upstream interleave depth: 0
Downstream interleave depth: 0
Line standard: VDSL
Upstream line attenuation (dB): 55.7
Downstream line attenuation (dB): 26.5
Upstream output power (dBmV): 6.9
Downstream output power (dBmV): 14.3
Downstream interleave depth: None
DSL up time: 0 days 2 hours 25 minutes 57 seconds

Fibre is due in our area in November this year so will definately be connecting to that, but in the meantime the 400-500Kbps upload is killing me, naturally not being hard to saturate through simply sending a photo on FB messenger.

Update: modem performance degraded over the course of the day yesterday to the point it would become responsive after about half an hour (even after leaving it all unplugged for 2 hours).

Long story short, a new modem is being shipped out for the price of postage Smiley Happy
