I'm trying out a back up service from Livedrive, and only getting less than 2.8Gb uploaded per day.
other services manage much more than that
Livedrive suggest that there's no issue with there servers, and maybe the ISP is throttling TCP/IP connections
any idea if this is an issue with vodafone fibre?

No, we don't throttle usage unless it's a pretty extreme case that violates reasonable use. Backing up a few Gig wouldn't do that.
If you can run a traceroute, I'll ask the network guys to see if there's an issue between us and your backup provider.
Cheers

thanks for confirming what I thought, their support specifically mentioned that speeds I achieve via Speedtest are not he same as using TCP/IP for data. Though I struggle to see how when the fiber is fairly consistent at 30Mbps down and 10Mbps up despite other traffic on my network all via wifi and potentially also using non http traffic.
I'm not sure where to do a traceroute to, since I can't lazily discover their server IP, but using the link to the files retrieval point via browser as a destination here's the traceroute:

yes it wont reflect your speed test speeds. I just wanted you to do to see if the speeds are the same as when you are doing upload. if your speedtest speeds are find then no problem.
from your tracert i can see its probably going half way around the world to a server in some remote location in UK. So i think the expected speeds are that much. If anybody throttles anything you should see it reflecting to all TCP traffic. If you do not see the speedtest not having issues that means no throttling.
looks like livedrive tried to put you on a wild goose chase. Ask them which server IP its connecting to and do a tracert to that and see where it is located.
Also you can get a general idea of speeds to the specific country by doing a speedtest to the specific country its hosted and match your upload download results. there should not be much discrepency in that.

Their servers are in UK, so it is a long route there, but it doesn't explain (to me) why if I push 5GB to iDrive it takes an evening, but similar data to LiveDrive takes almost three times longer,
I used to use SugarSync and am still using DropBox neither of which seem affected in the same way
I'm beginning to think I should just can the 'service' as being too slow to be truly useful
The Speedtest to UK site idea was golden… Thanks
Now all I need to do is get my head around how much data would transfer in 7 days at 3.2Mbps, my calculations suggest a lot more than 2.8gb/day (270Gbs) so ten times more than did make it to their servers
I could have got all the multiplication factors wrong

Hello Ninefish
try to do a speedtest and check what speeds you are getting.
areas you may get slow speed on upload is
- Using over Wi-Fi
- other uploads happening
and also the one third party has done a review and it mentions that the Live wire servers are quite inconsisted. ( Scroll down on the linka and look at the heading speed - http://www.backupreview.com/livedrive-review/)
Vodafone does not throttle speeds.

Dilhan
