we have a new fibre ultimate home pack with home phone and mailbox which is telling us we have an invalid mailbox number

Thanks for that. So to summarise, you're calling 0818 and rather than going through the setup you're getting "invalid mailbox" message. Sounds like your voicemail may not have been set up properly. If you message me your phone number or account number, I'll ask the Care team to check the setup.
