How can I upgrade my Vodafone NZ issued iPhone SE's battery after Apple recently acknowledged that it slows the performance of some iPhones because their older batteries are unable to properly power devices?

You can contact Apple direct - 0800-127-753 or directly approach an Apple authorised service centre.
Depending on your service coverage / when the device was purchased it may still be in warranty (click here to check)

I would like Vodafone to upgrade my battery for me since its still under Vodafone New Zealand's 24-month warranty on all mobile phones at the time of purchase and as per Guarantees Act and the Fair Trading Act etc
I live in Auckland

Where it’s a minor fault that can be fixed, then Vodafone can repair the phone, replace it, or give me a refund. If the fault is substantial or can’t be fixed, then I have the right to reject the phone and either choose a replacement of the same type and similar value or a full refund of the purchase price.

The CGA says if a product isn’t of acceptable quality then the retailer has to put it right.
For the small percentage of devices that are faulty, the law requires telcos – and other retailers – to put things right.
If my phone fails, and I haven’t caused the fault, I have the right to insist that the retailer makes good
