Spam sent to me, from my own email account!

I have recently been receiving spam emails in my Ihug inbox. The odd thing is, they are FROM my email account! I run Norton, and don't do anything particularly dodgy online, so am not sure how this has happened. Regardless, any help with sorting this out would be greatly appreciated, as I am not currently in the market for discount medicine or sex pills!

Thanks for the heads up, I've passed on some similar feedback to our operations team recently and they've passed it on further.

The "from" in an email can be set as easily as the "to" when sending commands to an outgoing email server. It's an interesting new trend the spammers have been using.

Hello, I am getting large amounts of sexually based spam (as it seems is everyone else). However yesterday it took a new twist - the address purporting to be where the spam email came from was my own. Yep bit scary as I'm not tech savvy. Is someone just faking my address or did they get into my pc? And what the hell do i do about it? I ran a full scan last night with no problems & I forwarded the email to missed spam with an explanation - not sure what to do next. Can anyone help?

@8031640

Thanks for the post. You've done all the right things, we'll look into it. Unless you've clicked on links in the spam, you should be fine.

Hi Anne

I've also received spam that purports to come from my email address, but I doubt it is coming from our email addresses.

@MikeHalesany update from the engineers about the spam filter? Also, why would spam go to the spam folder on webmail for one email address affected, yet another it lands straight into inbox on webmail?

Many thanks

Stevie
