2% convenience scam

Hi I would like to know why I keep getting stung with a 2% convenience fee when I pay my bill via Visa Debit online?

If I use this same card to pay my bill at the post office I do not incur any charge so I am wondering how you guys justify this cost?

Please do not claim you are passing on charges as it is a free service.

Hi @LukeMoore

The 2% Convenience fee is charged to us by our vendor. We used to absorb these charges, However as we offer over 4 other methods of payment such as Direct Debit and Automatic credit card payment we now pass this charge on to our customers that still wish to make one off card payments.

@LukeMoore If you use the card at NZ post the transaction goes through the EFTPOS network as opposed to going through the VISA network if you use it online (different fee structure). EFTPOS transaction = processed as CHQ / SAV and VISA transaction = CRD.

That's great but you have not explained why you use a different system?

Other transactions I make online such as paying my power bill or purchasing goods such as clothing do not incur this charge.

@LukeMooreMany retailers charge a % and some are up to 5%, It's not a SCAM as the charge is made very clear,

And you are incorrect about ' Free ' service
