Vodafone wireless broadband using non Vodafone Modem

I've recently signed up for the 120GB Wireless Broadband (Mobile Broadband) package for twelve months. I have my own ASUS modem which I've been using succesfully with other providers (and works with my Vodafone mobile phone SIM) which always auto detects and connects to the mobile network and works right away.

When I insert the Vodafone Wireless Broadband SIM it fails to set up. The SIM works fine when inserted into the Vodafone modem which was sent with the card. What settings do I need to enable my ASUS modem to connect to the network.

Options on the ASUS settings page are:

  • Pin Code
  • APN service
  • Dial number
  • Username
  • Password
  • MTU

The ASUS router is pretty important to my overall setup and using the Vodafone supplied modem isn't an option.

SIM is TAC locked to the B315, so sorry it won't work in another router / handset.

@TheIratePirate, @HamishA- it's possible and can be done if you get Vodafone to do a SIM swap to a new SIM card.

The same question was raised recently by another poster who did a SIM swap which was confirmed as working; the above poster is incorrect in suggesting it can't be done.

The RBI / HWB SIM is TAC locked to the IMEI range of the RBI modems so it will not work in your ASUS modem.

You will need to do a SIM Swap onto a regular SIM if you want to use it in that modem Smiley Happy.
