We are deploying 5 x computer terminals across the airport and cannot use the companies network for internet access and therefore have to use a 4G data connection. But how we secure the connection to the computer terminals is by whitelisting their IP address. So i have two questions about your 4G connection.
1. Are we able to have a static IP address on a 4G vodem/mobile hotspot?
2. How often does an IP address change on a 4G vodem, if we stay in one location and don't disconnect i'd assume that we would have the same IP address?
The standard ‘vodafone’ APN is CG-NAT’d , hence the equipment would not have a externally reachable public IP. Not a good idea to be whitelisting the IP assigned as it would be in use by multiple subscribers at the same time.
Really for what you want to achieve, you’d need a private APN , and with a private APN you would be able to assigned static IP’s to each connection also.
