Staying at little kaiteriteri (do each year at this time). First thing noticed is cell coverage poor to non existant most of the time. In pevious years was always excellent. Noticed the small cell site on the eastern peninsula is gone (has it been stolen?). Went up and had a look. Antennas off the mast and wires cut Box removed. This site covered kaiteri, little kaiteri and Stephens bay. Whats happened? I hope its being replaced as there will a lot of grumpy tourists wanting reliable coverage andor another provider.

Thanks for the heads up. I've passed this message on and will get back to you if I hear more about it. If it is one of ours I expect an alarm in our network would have gone off when the site was unreachable.

We've had confirmation that site has been decommissioned. I'm waiting on further info from some colleagues, hopefully I'll have that on Monday.

The title of this thread did make me laugh.
seriously who's going to steal a cell site, plus they are like 20 meters high, not exactly an easy job!

If youd had seen the rough way the gear had been initially removed (butchery), it looked like it could have been stolen !
The mast was still there minus the antennas. Wooden pole, prob 6m high. Not too diificult to unbolt the antennas. Bolts still left on the concrete pad where the Box was. Two trucks with a Hiab took the pole and pad away yesterday. Cell coverage now poor to zero on this side of the hill. Hopefully there is a plan to service this area from a future site elsewhere ??

The clean up yes, not the initial removal. This happened before we arrived to stay.
But if it had been stolen why would a theif come back to clean up the rest of the mess?
