Vodafone/IHUG smtp issue

by goober1 Starter Poster

There's an rather unspecific issue reported yesterday on the Vodafone fixed line & broadband network status page, relating to BB issues in Onehunga.  Is that why I have no SMTP access?  I've been having very slow response from the smtp.ihug.co.nz server for a few weeks now - today it's not working at all.

Moved thread from ' Welcome to the community ' to section related to the query,

@goober1  Do you have normal internet access working? Can you change the smtp address to smtp.vodafone.co.nz

We are not aware of any smtp issues,

John

All other internet access is working fine.

Changed to smtp.vodafone.co.nz but still getting smtp timeouts.

Last successful email sent was yesterday (18/2) at 18:08.

Settings were (and am quite sure they have been this way for quite some time):

   Server: smtp.ihug.co.nz

   Port: 25

   Authentication: Normal password

   Security: STARTTLS

Changed to not use authentication, and it now works for both smtp servers.

Is this a recent change?

I am having the same or similar problem. Almost every time I use my ihug address to send email, I have to input my password. It timeouts frequently or does not connect. There is always a delay. this has been happening for some time. I can only guess that it is Vodafone's attempt to force long-time users to change to using Vodafone as an address. I would probably look around at other ISPs if I have to change my email address anyway.....

@dadlam  have you called the fixed line support team and had a ticket logged?

You should be using smtp.vodafone.co.nz for outgoing server and this afternoon I have kicked off some checks around the smtp server for vodafone.co.nz / ihug.co.nz

Having used smtp.ihug....since 1998, It would have eased the frustration if somebody had informed us to change to smtp.vodafone... It appears to be much quicker now. Thanks.

I too have been using smtp.ihug since the ice ages and have been wondering why I was getting so much grief when I have tried to "send" my emails.

It would have been nice, and indeed a courtesy, if someone had advised me of the change before I finally went searching for an an answer tonight Smiley Sad
