Happy to let everyone know about the Vodafone Ultra Hub modem, which has launched for ADSL, VDSL, FibreX and Fibre broadband.

Reasons to be cheerful

  • Offers the latest generation 4x4 AC Wi-Fi. This means more users with less congestion so faster browsing, gaming and smoother video streaming for everyone in the home
  • Focuses your home’s Wi-Fi signal directly to each connected device through a process called Beam forming
(for devices that support 5GHz AC Wi-Fi)

Tech specs

  • Dual Core Broadcom 400MHz CPU with 256MB DDR3 RAM
  • DSL/WAN router
  • 1x ADSL/VDSL (RJ-11)
  • 3 x Gigabit Ethernet LAN (RJ45)
  • 1 x Gigabit Ethernet WAN (RJ45)
  • 2 x FXS for analogue phones, fax, pos (RJ11)
  • 1 x USB 2.0
  • 4G/3G HSPA via MBB USB stick
  • Vodafone TV support
  • Wi-Fi 11b/g/n/ac dual band concurrent:
5GHz Quantenna 4x4  MIMO and Beam forming
    2,4GHz Broadcom 2x2.

It's available for customers who resign to their Vodafone broadband plans and new customers.

The increased throughput is down to the antenna and chipset rather than aggregation, though the beamforming is pretty crucial to that increase also, focuses signal on connected devices.

Hi there, I'm just setting up my new Ultra Hub modem, and there are two things (so far) that I can't locate.

1 - Guest WiFi access point (Guest Network). This was built in to the previous HG659 but is nowhere to be found on the Ultra Hub. A necesary evil when we choose to share our internet connection, but we have files shared across our home network that I don't want others to have access to. I see this as a pretty important function.

2 - Speed limiting of individual devices connected to the ethernet feature is now gone. this used to be available via the Network Status tab. This was helpful to slow down a transfer of data where a backup occurs over the network and can consume a large amount of bandwidth.

If i've overlooked these functions burried somwhere in the UI, I'd appreciate any help in finding them!

Cheers, Barracuda

The Ultra Hub does not support either guest wifi or per device rate limiting.

Hi there,

I've just had one of these installed, and neither the Secure DNS nor the Dynamic DNS settings will turn on, the toggle switch works, and allows details to be entered for DDNS, but clicking on the apply button does nothing...

Any idea if this can be sorted please?

Cheers.

Hi there,

This is probably a really stupid question BUT......I have just received and installed my Ultra hub, however there are 2 Wifi Network names on the modem and showing up on each device.....how do i know which one i am meant to connect to? Or does it matter? I am currently on ASDL waiting for VDSL to be set up

@SarahMurph

No such thing!

If your device can see the 5GHz channel, with 5G or similar in the name - connect to that as fastest option.

Hi,

Just had the new Ultra Hub installed.

Would be nice to have a decent User Guide available.

There's a USB port on the back, I was hoping I could use this to share a Printer.

I had a Linksys EA6900 there before which would do this.

And I can't reuse the Linksys because it doesn't support VLAN Tagging (required for FibreX).

Was told by a Vodafone Ninja that there is no device sharing available on the Ultra Hub yet.

A bit odd given the web pages allow you to turn the feature on and it discovers and recognises the attached printer.

So, is Printer Sharing a possibility? If so, any clues as to how?

Or is it something this router cannot do?

I found how it was done in the HG659 Guide  - but that didn't work.

Cheers,

Rob.
