 Hi

Ive got an ihug email , ive been getting non stop spam for about a week , ive checked with a few other people i know that have ihug email address's and they are also getting the same problem.

Is there a current problem with the Spam FIlter ? its coming from all sorts of address's not just one. Plain Text Emails, some include ZIP Files , some say ive purchased items with customer orders etc.... the list goes on

is anyone else having the same issue , everyone i know with an @ihug address is having this problem.

Thanks

Yes same here, all my vodafone/ihug addresses are getting them, I made a brand new email account and has an email 20 minutes later. Looks like the vodafone database has been compromised again and everyones email has been leaked.

Ether that or vodafone forgot to pay the licence fee for the spam filter again.

I'm certain the spam filter isn't completely broken. I've had the same email address since the time having an email address was such a clever thing that ISPs would have a directory of their users and their email addresses available from their home page.

Before IHUG started scanning for spam and viruses as a matter of course, which was many years ago now, I was receiving around a hundred spams a day at that point. This kept me very busy writing rules for all the various ways that 'viagra' could be mispelled and still be recognisable.

If the filter was just turned off now, I'm sure I'd have hundred spams in the first hour.

The spam that does get through is mildly annoying, but the ones with all the zip files that will take you to a dark alleyway where you will be beaten and robbed of your files are much more of a concern.

I'm just waiting for one of my customers to phone telling me they can't open their files...

Regards, Chris

Hi, I'm having this issue too on 2 out of 3 Ihug addresses I use. I'm getting various spam messages at a rate of about 5 or 6 a day. Some with links, some with attachments.  It started around a week ago.

Same here. Started getting 7 or 8 spam emails per day on a ihug email address I've had for over a decade. I just phoned Vodafone support and after the usual number soup spoke to a real person who asked me to forward all my spam to DNSBL.info.

I sent them the last three day's worth (about 25) to get a reply to NOT send them my spam. I told them I was instructed to do so by Vodafone NZ and they said that Vodafone NZ was unresponsive in the face of being told they were giving out false advice to customers.

I am not going to be bothered with Spamcop - this is something that Vodafone NZ should be sorting out and not the end user.

Where to next? I am tempted to just get rid of my ihug address and move everything to gmail

Same here, I've had an ihug account for 17 years and have had almost no spam in all that time until the last week or so. Most have been of the Viagra and other $ex related type.

They have now started to become personal. One I got last night is a real cause for concern, it purported to have been sent by me (my name is the sender) from a smartphone to me as the receiver! How would that be achieved? Looking at the header info it does look very convincing.

I guess this is one of those "me too" posts in that my wife and I, both with IHUG addresses, have received a significant number of spam e-mails in the past week or 10 days and I did wonder if the SPAM filter "off" switch had been knocked by the cleaner.

Several do have .zip attachments and one appeared to come from my bank. Does VF have an explanation or a view?

It appears, along with most providers, Vodafone don't give a **bleep** about their customers.  This is just another instance of their incapability to connect with customers.  I have had around 30 of these emails over the last 3 weeks, all similar to above, and early today 3 with no message in the body, and a document attached, zip of course.  And sent from me???  As already mentioned, very concerning when spam is using your own address to send.

I rang the help desk at 4 am a few days ago, to be told there is no after hours service (?)  And that I should change passwords, get anti virus, blah blah.  Interestingly there was no follow up email askin 'how did we do".Just trying again now, only 3 minutes to get action!  Now waiting for a 'ticket no.' Operator said he would put me through to someone to sort, I got cut off because they are "experiencing high customer calls".  Really?

My next call will be to customer retention team.
