Increased gaming latency

Hi

I've recently been experiencing a higher than normal latency on game servers in North America, most notably over the last week.  It looks like traffic is being sent through asia instead of via the Pacific.  Here's a tracert for my connection to World of Tanks US-Central server.

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1
2 79 ms 126 ms 23 ms 210-246-63-254.dsl.dyn.ihug.co.nz [210.246.63.254]

11 220 ms 219 ms 218 ms if-ae-8-2.tcore1.LVW-Los-Angeles.as6453.net [66.110.59.8]
12 277 ms * 233 ms 66.110.59.66
13 250 ms 250 ms 250 ms dls-b22-link.telia.net [62.115.118.246]
14 255 ms 254 ms 254 ms kanc-b1-link.telia.net [62.115.125.158]
15 261 ms 261 ms 250 ms chi-b21-link.telia.net [213.155.130.176]
16 251 ms 250 ms 250 ms gcore-ic-326822-chi-b21.c.telia.net [62.115.32.101]
17 252 ms 249 ms 250 ms 92.223.56.17

Previously traffic was routed to NSW, then to the US, giving a final ping to Chicago of around 190-200ms.  Routing through Japan seems to be increasing the latency to a much higher amount, reducing the quality of my broadband product.

Any help with this?

Thanks

Hey there @bungle954,

Don't know much about routing BUT I did manage to find http://forum.worldoftanks.asia/index.php?/topic/75608-regional-connectivity/ and also http://forum.worldoftanks.asia/index.php?/topic/75786-anyone-else-having-massive-lag-issues-in-new-z... stating known issues due to cable problems. That should giveyou all the info you require Smiley Happy

Best of luck!

Thanks,

However that would be to do with the Asian server, and I am trying to connect to the North America server. Connections from NZ are suffering to the Asian sever due to the aforementioned cable problem (specifically the SEA-ME-WE-3 cable), which spans the gap between Australia and Asia.  Players from NZ and Australia are suffering an increased latency there due to that well documented technical problem.  It is unavaoidable inconvenience that is affecting all sorts of traffic in that region of the world.

World of Tanks hosts several international servers: North America, Asia, China, Europe and Russia.  Roaming between servers is not possible.  I am part of the North American server, and cannot just choose to use the Asia server when connection troubles arise.  I have enjoyed years of trouble free connections to the North American server as a customer of Vodafone, however this abruptly changed three or so weeks ago.   Prior to this, traffic was goingg via the Southern Cross cable, resulting in a route that goes directly from NZ or Australia to California, then eventually to Chicago. As per the tracert i published above, traffic is now being routed via Japan, resulting in unncessary excess connections, packet loss and higher latency.

This problem is specifically to do with how Vodafone's downstream routing is being run.

This seems to be a problem only when connecting to the World of Tanks North American Central server,  and does not seem to be present when connecting to other North American Servers for other major services that I have tested.

Thanks

Whoever sorted this, thank you.  It means a lot, even it seems like a trivial thing (computer games).

Spoke too soon.  Back to another stupid route.  Consistency would be great here.
