Extremely Slow VDSL Speed

So we got VDSL installed about a month ago and ever since then we've been having issues with the slow speed and unstable connection. Speedtests show 22mbps download speed but actual download speed is only 1.2mbps max (tried over an ethernet cable). Streaming HD is barely even possible. I've called a minimum of 5 times about this and I always get the same response along the lines of "Oh it should be working, lol nothing we can do sorry." This is getting really frustrating now as the amount that we're paying monthly isn't even close to the quality of service that we're getting.

Answers to questions I always get asked on my almost daily phone calls to Vodafone:

1. Yes I have tried rebooting the modem (repeatedly done in vain)

2. Yes I placed the modem in an elevated place in the middle of the room (short of putting the modem on the chandelier I dont think we can go higher)

3. Yes I'm testing via an ethernet cable

4. No my laptop has no viruses or malware

Really hope that you guys can help cause I am this close to ripping my hair out.

@kipmeDid you have a master filter installed at the time of getting connected to VDSL? This is the blog post you need to read and understand about house wiring and how unused Telephone jack points can cause havoc

Also if you are too far from the exchange / serving cabinet say over 800 meters then you may be better off a a ADSL2+ connection

My Upstream rate is only 500 - 1.7% of my download - it makes no sense. There must be some setting that can be changed to allow more upload, and sacrifice download?

@tobyrickettsThere is no setting you are speaking of, Moving from ADSL to VDSL requires perfect house wiring setup

Hi @johnr, thanks for your reply. My setup is less than 6 months old, a brand new physical connection setup by Chorus, brand new house wiring, modem is the single phone jack point.

Upload speed was over 1Mbps, which was manageable up until about a week or two ago, suddently changed.

Is there a way of utilising two connections to increase upload speed? This really is critical to my business.

Your thoughts appreciated.

I should add that I'm with Vodafone as I use the 'SureSignal' service to giver me mobile coverage, and currently any web traffic at all means there is not enough upload for the Sure Signal device to work properly.

Thanks,

@tobyrickettsThen you need to look at the modem xDSL line stats, You might be too far from the serving cabinet / exchange for VDSL to work to it's best potencial

If over 800 meters to 1km then really you might be better off on ADSL, So did Chorus intstall a master filter or are you using line filters?

Are you on a clothed or Naked VDSL connection?

Having Sure Signal does not relate to how the VDSL will perform
